Held at the Muh. Amien Hall of FIPP UNY, the Department of Curriculum and Educational Technology of FIPP UNY conducted an Inbound Visiting Professor program on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, featuring Prof. Dr. Wu-Yuin Hwang as the keynote speaker. Carrying the theme “AI (GPT-3) and Recognition Technologies to Facilitate EFL Writing for Supporting Personalization and Contextualization in Authentic Contexts,” Prof. Dr. Wu-Yuin Hwang explained how recognition technologies and AI (GPT-3) can support English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing by enhancing personalization and contextualization in authentic learning environments.

Attended by approximately 55 undergraduate and postgraduate Educational Technology students, the session began with the speaker emphasizing the importance of being cautious in using AI technologies to prevent academic dishonesty, which can ultimately disadvantage students. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Wu-Yuin Hwang highlighted that English as a Foreign Language (EFL) can present challenges for learners due to limited lexical resources that can inspire meaningful writing beyond grammatical feedback. He also emphasized the importance of designing personalized feedback based on students’ original writing to help improve their writing proficiency.
