Department of Curriculum and Educational Technology Opens the Even Semester of 2023 with a Public Lecture

The first day of the Even Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year for the Department of Curriculum and Educational Technology, held on Monday, February 12, 2024, began with a Public Lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Sugeng Bayu Wahyono, M.Si. The lecture carried the theme “Dynamics of the Epistemology of Educational Technology as a Scientific Discipline.” The event was conducted online, considering that many students were still in their respective hometowns awaiting the 2024 Election Day.

At 10:00 AM, the moderator, Dr. Deni Hardianto, M.Pd., opened the session by greeting the approximately 300 students present in the Zoom room, followed by opening remarks from the Head of the Department, Dr. Sisca Rahmadonna, M.Pd. She welcomed undergraduate and graduate students of Educational Technology and encouraged them to deepen their understanding of the field to ensure smooth and timely study completion.

In his presentation, the speaker began by explaining that Educational Technology is a relatively young discipline, emerging in the 1970s. Referring to Molenda and Januszewski (2008:245), he noted that Educational Technology is considered an interdisciplinary field whose outcomes can be applied in various contexts. He further explained that the epistemological dynamics of the discipline have evolved from a positivistic orientation to a constructivistic one, and now tend toward a critical paradigm aligned with the rise of the digital era.
